Like most popular RPGs, it didn’t take long for Final Fantasy to start branching out to spin-offs and subseries after it became an internal success. The anthology fuses science-fiction and fantasy elements to create games with new characters, locations, and gameplay mechanics. Most Final Fantasy games share common themes such as good vs. evil and destiny, and creatures like Chocobos and Moogles.

The game wrapped its Year 1 Character Pass in September with an updated Boruto that also provided him with a manga-accurate look. With Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu set to release Christmas 2024, these other iconic vampire movies are a perfect way to kill time until it hits theatres. With Final Fantasy XIV standing as one of the finest currently active MMOs, the series is never out of the spotlight. Some of them are traditional RPGs, while others take more liberties with the franchise.

The number of hours players have sunken into Diablo games is so astronomical it could probably rival any other franchise in existence. They’re more like obsessions than games, with simple, addictive combat bolstered by layered story and character progression and loot systems that make the games more engrossing the longer you play them.
With an incredible roster, Marvel Rivals has nearly every character any fan could ask for, however there are still some we would love to see added in. Taking to Twitter, the official Naruto games account shared that the series has topped over 30 million units sold to date. With the ado surrounding the new Switch titles, it’s also shaping up to be one of the most controversial of the last ten years. For those who haven’t played, it is hard to wrap one’s head around the obsession with collecting all these lovable creatures. Alongside crossovers with games like Mario Party, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart, the Donkey Kong series is much more expansive than you might think.
The American Football simulation Madden was represented in the top 10 every single year, while Take-Two’s NBA 2K series dropped out of the ranking of the best-selling games in the U.S. starting with NBA 2K21. While most other games managed to enter the top 10 with new franchise installments, Rockstar Games achieved this feat for five years with a single game. Donkey Kong might not star in that many games recently, but there was a time when the villain-turned-hero was everywhere. After 1981’s Donkey Kong arcade cabinet introduced DK and Mario, the gorilla and his extended family continued to appear in arcades, home consoles, and handheld games.
While it provided a good variety of objectives, the sheer repetition of tasks and limitations of the DS hardware dampened the overall experience for many. Still, the story’s emotional weight makes it a fan favorite, even if the gameplay falls short compared to other entries. There are many factors that make a good video game, but sometimes all that’s necessary is a strong concept and a surreal sense of humor.
